    Article summary

If you're reading this, there's a good chance that your label has started using eddy.app for their royalty accounting.

eddy.app is a music royalty accounting software that allows labels to configure their deals, process their revenue, and report to their artists and right holders with complete transparency.

The software also provides a Payee Portal that will allow you (the Payee) to get a consolidated view of your catalog, contract(s), costs and advances, and the performance of your projects. You will be able to quickly visualize which are your top releases, and where your biggest fanbase is.

This article will go over the different sections of your Payee Portal. Let's dive into it...

    The Payee Portal Explained

Once you've successfully activated your Payee Portal, have a look through the different sections and start exploring the multitude of data available.

    Statements

In this section, you will be able to access all of your royalty statements shared by your label or distributor.

Here, you'll be able to see:

    • The total statement income (i.e. the total revenue for that reporting period).
    • Your gross income (i.e. your gross revenue share before costs and/or advances have been recouped).
    • The final due amount, which represents your net income (i.e. what you will receive in your bank account).
    • Your statements' payment status.
    Got a question?

Questions related to your statements, invoices or payments should be addressed directly to your label or distributor.

You can download your statements directly by clicking on PDF, or get the CSV/Excel files sent to your inbox.

    Costs

You might be used to the "old-fashioned" cost recoupment, where a lump sum is added to or deducted from the opening and closing balance. While this offers a clear high-level image at a given time, it's hard to get a granular view of the costs associated with your contracts over time.

The cost overview in eddy.app displays a breakdown of all costs under your agreement, providing you with a clear recoupment status split by category all the way down to the cost level.

Costs are categorized based on their nature: marketing, tour support, shipping, etc.

You might also notice that there are two types of costs:

    • Shared costs: these costs are recouped on the contracts' gross income, and you and your label participate equally in recoupment.
    • Artist costs: these costs are recouped on the payee's gross income (i.e. after applying your royalty rate). The recoupment percentage specifies how much of the cost value you'll recoup. Should a cost be fully recouped from your share, it will be set to 100%.

    Advances

This section offers an overview of the different advances on royalties received from your label or distributor.

Here, you'll be able to see:

    • The total advance amount.
    • The recoupment rate (i.e. how much of the advance needs to be recouped from your royalty share, which in the case of advances is usually 100%).
    • The recoupment percentage, which indicates how much of the advance has already been recouped.

Note that advances are recouped before you get your net income, which means that as long as your advance hasn't been paid off from your revenue share, the final amount due displayed on your statement will be negative.

    Insights

The Insights section allows you to visualize and explore your revenue data, consolidated into valuable metrics for your releases and their performance.

Your insights are split into two dashboards:

    Global Insights

View a breakdown of your revenue by release, country, sales channel, retailer, and more.

For increased transparency, you can choose which amount you want your insights to be based on:

Statement income: this is the consolidated statement income for all payees (if applicable) after applying your royalty rate and before any cost or advance recoupment.
Statement subtotal: this is the consolidated statement income after shared costs recoupment, reserves and contract deductions for all payees (if applicable).
Gross payee subtotal: this is your share of the gross income before applying taxes or advance recoupment.

    Explorer Insights

Explorer Insights are a fun way to visualize in which countries your projects have generated revenue.

Use Filters to scope Explorer Insights and hover over each country highlighted in green to display revenue.

    Invoices

With eddy.app's Self-Billing feature, your label or distributor can automatically generate invoices on your behalf. You'll find all of your self-billed invoices in the Invoices section of your Payee Portal.

If your Invoices section is empty, this probably means that your label or distributor does not use the Self-Billing feature, or that no invoices have been generated as of yet.

If your label or distributor does use Self-Billing, invoices will only be generated once these two conditions have been met:

    • The total of your unpaid statement(s) is higher than the invoice threshold set by your label or distributor.
    • Your self-billing authorization has been signed. To complete your self-billing authorization, follow the steps in this article.

    Contracts

In this section, you'll be able to access your different contract terms and parameters with complete transparency.

    Screenshot 2023-05-05 at 11.08.22.png

Click on a specific contract to view the contract period, the statement periodicity (i.e. how often you'll be receiving royalty statements), the royalty deal structure and your royalty percentage, as well as the different sales channels on which your releases are distributed (digital, physical, sync, merch, etc.) and generating revenue.

    Catalog

In this section, you'll be able to visualize all of the content for which royalties are due and accounted for in your statements.

Your royalties will be calculated based on the sales for these particular releases (digital and physical), tracks, videos, and merch items.
